Abstract
ABSTRACT
Language is an important means of communication to express our ideas, emotion and feeling. There are three kinds of language, they are oral, language, written language and gesture. Written language absolutely record the science including literature. Literature is creative and imaginative work of art either spoken or written. Lyrics of songs and poem, that is a kind of literature, can express our feeling, willing and though. Song is a poem set to music, intended to be sung.
There are many Indonesian musicians use figurative language in their songs. The writer is interested in Ebiet G. Ade’s songs because he is a singe؛’and a musician of poetic songs. His songs always contain spiritual message about relation between human and God, human and environment also among human, God and environment. For example the lyrics of Masih Ada Wakm, it tells about our life and remind us that we will be dead and go back to God.
The writer decided to give the title of her thesis "An Analysis of Figurative, Language Used in the Lyrics of Ebiet G. Ade’s Songs”. The problems of the study are what kinds of figurative language used in the lyrics of Ebiet G. Ade songs? What kinds of figurative language which are mostly used hi the lyrics of Ebiet G. Ade’s songs? And what are the messages of figurative language used in the lyrics of Ebiet G. Ade’s songs? The writer limits only eight songs. The objective of the study is to find the answer of the research questions. To check and recheck data, triangulation is used in this study, the writer uses triangulation of data sources.
From this study was found out that the kinds of figurative language are hyperbole, allegory, metaphor, repetition, parallelism, personification, paradox, antithesis, and simile and in each song, the figurative language that are mostly used are different. The message that found is most of the songs have religious message.
Finally the writer suggests the readesr or other researchers who want to conduct the same topic, can analyze other types and aspects of figurative language used in the lyrics of songs.
