Moral values found in the sound of waves by Yukio Mishima

ABSTRACT

Literature is human expression of their experience and their knowledge about life that gives them a contribution to be more careful of doing thing in their life in order not to do mistake. It becomes private and personal activity including an aspect of morality or moral values, which becomes the subject of this study. However the moral values are not always suitable with consciences. Conflicts may emerge. This conflict may also appear in a novel as reflection of real life experience. We can study human life or human interaction by studying and analyzing a novel.

This study focuses on analyzing Moral Values in The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima. Based on the background of the study, the analysis on Moral Values in The Sound of Waves was conducted to answer these research problems: (1) What are the personal values found in The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima. (2) What are the social values found in The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima, and (3) What are the religious values found in The sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima. ,The objective of this study is to describe the personal values, social values and religious values found in The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima.

This research used descriptive qualitative method. The researcher collected the data by reading it again and again, recording the data, selecting and picking up the data, then arranging systematically in accordance with the problems of the study, they are what the personal values, social values, and religious values are found in The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima. After the data had been collected, they were ,analyzed by categorizing the data into three categories; moral values in the relationship between man and his individual life or personal values, man and society or social values, and man and God or religious values.

She found some aspect of moral values in the relationship between man and his individual or personal values, man and society or social values and man and God or religious values in this research. Finally the writer hopes that the other researcher conduct an analysis about moral values related to the politic in the social norms. The writer hopped that this analysis could be as a source to the further analysis.
