Abstract

ABSTRACT

Feminism is one of movements those are built by women who are aware that tl١cy have been treated unfair by society. Women open up their eyes to wake up and demand their rights. The feminist movement is developing surround the world.

Often we watch that women are treated badly for examples men do rapping and murdering. These phenomena can be seen not only in family but also out of family. They arc men who always force women especially their daughter or wile to do wltat they want. Il is described not only in real world but also in literature. There are only some little women become a writer. Because world still assume that women are described as a powerless creature. Consequently, the women are considered as a weak creature both textually and contextually.

The purpose of this study is to describe women’s rights that reflected on the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. This drama tells about how a daughter defends herself to attack her father wishes and decide what is better for her.

This study uses literary criticism and descriptive qualitative to discuss about the values of emancipation and women’s rights as reflected in the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, through the drama, the writer find several values of women’s rights such as abolition the discrimination treatment, the women’s freedom, the men’s suppression to the women, women’s rights to make decision, to stale argumentation and to have the same treatment.

Related to this drama, we can conclude that in patriarchal system, men have authority to fulfill their desire. They always force women to do what men wishes. Women are always suppressed until they will do what men wishes.

By this study, the researcher hope that the readers can catch out the messages of the drama (he tragedy of Romeo and Juliet and the researcher wish that for the next researcher would give a deep attention with this topic for developing feminist criticism.
