An analysis on messages of Seribu Masjid Satu Jumlahnya by Emha Ainun Nadjib

ABSTRACT

Literature means as a mirror of life. It brings many life themes. Literature can be a communication tool. It can be a medium to communicate between a literary man and the readers in a special way. Besides as a mirror of life and as a communication tool, literature has certain function in society. It can change or influence society to do something that the literary man orders or suggest. But, above all, the literature is nothing when the readers do not understand the message. The message is something that inspires the artist or literary man to make a literary works, something that an artist wants to send to the reader.

This study aims at analyzing the message in Seribu Masjid Satu Jumlahnya by Emha Ainun Nadjib. In this study, the writer has two problems. The first is what kind of message is found in the poem and the second is how the message is sent through the poems. ,The writer only analyzed ten poems out of fifty poems.

The research design used in this study is descriptive qualitative research, which describes the messages and how they are sent through the ten-poem in the book entitled ،،Seribu Masjid Satu Jumlahnya”. In collecting the data, the ,writer has three stages. They are as follow: 1) the writer looked for the Emha’s works and found the book entitled Seribu Masjid Satu Jumlahnya, 2) the writer read the poems, 3) the writer selected ten poems out of fifty poems purposively in order to get the suitable poems for the analysis. Some of the poems are in series and their verses are very long, so the writer can not do that because he needed more time and cost to conduct the analysis.

The result of this study is the ten poems written by Emha Ainun Nadjib contain messages. ,They are religious messages, moral messages, and social messages. The messages are sent through the different ways. They are sent by using the Koran’s verses, the words, the comparison, advises, the form of problems and solutions, the form of questions and answers, the prayer, the worship to Allah, and the contemplation.

From the analysis, the writer is aware that this study is far from being perfect and he expects that the other researchers would continue and develop it for a better analysis. He also expects the analysis can arouse the readers’ desire to understand the message found in literary works especially the poem. Finally, he hopes the teacher to use this analysis as an additional contribution in learning the literary works especially the message in poem.
