Abstract

ABSTRACT

One form of literature is poem.. Poem can be expressed in a song to show people's deep feeling. Many things can be expressed in a song and it can represent the feeling, and the thought. In this study, it will be focused on the lyrics of Islamic songs which have figurative language.

There are some reasons which provide the basic for the writer in choosing this topic. By reading to the song, we may acquire knowledge about how to appreciate literature and know the background of the lyrics of Islamic songs. Therefore, she was interested in analyzing the figurative language used in Nasida Ria songs. The writer decides to give the title of her thesis *،An Analysis on Figurative Language in the Lyrics of Islamic Songs by Nasida Ria”. The problem of the study is what kinds of figurative language are used in Nasida Ria songs? And what are theme of Nasida Ria songs?.

The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative research, which describes the figurative language and theme on those Islamic songs. In data collection the writer takes the lyrics of Islamic songs as random which have figurative language. The writer analyzing the data with the following steps: listening to the songs and reading all of lyrics texts, analyzing by explaining and transcribing the Islamic songs, making interpretation of the data which had been selected, the last making conclusion based on the data analysis.
The result of this study is in the lyrics of Islamic songs we found some kind of figurative language expression. The figurative language used in Nasida Ria songs are: Simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, antithesis, and repetition. The most dominant figurative language is antithesis. Dealing with the second research problem is theme, the writer finds theme of each Nasida Ria song.

Finally, the researcher’s suggestion for the reader this study could be benefecialy useful for them. For further, the students and the other researchers who are interested in analyzing the same topic to be able to develop this study by using different point of view because there are still many elements that have not been analyzed yet.
