A study of slang language used by the announcers of Malangkucecwara FM (MFM) ABM Malang

ABSTRACT

Radio is one of the entertainments needed by many people. There are a lot of interesting programs in radio entertainment. The presenters of the programs have to try to give the best service and interesting style of presenting programs to their listeners. One of those styles is the use of slang language. Announcers use slang language to communicate with the audience. Slang is nonstandard language which consists of words and senses that are often used by someone to communicate with teenagers.

This research is focused on observing the characteristics of slang language used by the announcers of Malangkucecwara FM (MFM) ABM Malang and the reasons of the announcers for using slang langttage.

Descriptive qualitative research is the research design of this study. The subject of this research were two annotmcers of MusiQu program. The data sources in this research were slang words spoken by the announcers of MusiQu program of (MFM) ABM Malang. In collecting the data, the writer used two kinds of research instrument; observation and interview. The data obtained were then analyzed by identifying, classifying, and describing the word of slang and the reasons of the announcers for using the slang, and finally the writer drew some conclusions.

From the data collected, the writer found that there were 3 characteristics of slang used by the announcer of MusiQu: aphesis, apokope, and acronym. There were 2 reasons for using slang language at MusiQu .first, the use of slang is to make the listeners feel familiar and intimate with the radio because it uses slang language that is used in daily conversation and second, to make the annotmcers more relaxed because she/he can speak freely like speaking in their daily life..

Finally, the writer hopes that this thesis can give beneficial contribution to the students especially for further researchers who want to study on the same topic especially about slang language but in different aspects.
