An analysis on figurative language and message used in Kahlil Gibrans Sayap Sayap yang Patah

ABSTRACT

Literature is an expresion of human thought which can not be separated from the human life because it describes the real condition that happens in life.

There are many reasons which provide the basis for the writer in choosing this topic. By reading to the novel, we may acquire knowledge and insight about how to appreciate literature. Therefore, he was interested in analyzing the figurative language and the message used in kahlil Gibran “sayap- sayap yang patah” since he knows there are many figurative language and lessons that are found in Kahlil Gibran’s novel. The writer decided to give the title of his thesis “An Analysis on Figurative Language and the Message used in Kahlil Gibran’s Sayap-Sayap yang Patah”. The problems of the study are what figurative languages appear dominant in Sayap-Sayap yang PatahS What is the dominant message in Sayap-Sayap yang Patah? How does the dominant figurative language relate to the dominant message in Sayap-Sayapyang Patah?

The objective of the study is to acquire, answer and to describe the question intended in this study and gain better understanding on the content of the novel. The writer limits his study on six sub titles; the figurative language is limited on the simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, metonymy and symbol. In addition, the message is limited by his on social message, moral message, and religious message which is Presented by Gibran in some sub titles such as; Duka yang Bisu, Tangan Takdir, Pintu Masuk Menuju Tempat Kudus, Obor Putih, Badai, Danau Api. Finally, the writer suggests the future researchers that they would be better if they analyze the novel Sayap-Sayap yang Patah from other aspects such as sociocultural aspect, esthetical aspect, and psychological aspect. Besides, it is also recommended that the reader of the novel and this thesis draw lesson from both the novel and the finding while the next researcher conduct the same theme of the study more complete discussion.
