Abstract
ABSTRACT
Literature is a human creation through imagination and emosion and in the writen form. Literature can be divided into three kinds, they are poetry, and prose, and drama. There are some appreciotions about literature that stated by some experts of literature. There are also some reasons that provided for the writer in choosing this topic. By reading the poems, the writer may acquire knowledge about how to appreciate literature espacially about poetry.
The problems of the study are; what kinds of figurative language are found in the selected poems on Every Man’s Poetry by sir Walter Ralegh?, and what kinds of values are found in each selected poem on Every Man Poetry by Sir Walter Ralegh ? The collection of Sir Walter Ralegh poems consisted of fourty one poems. Since, to discuss all of those poems are impossible and because of limited time, the writer only limits eight poems.
The writer uses descriptive qualitative method. This method refers to research that produces descriptive data: the own people writer or spoken words and observable behaviour dealing with the method above, the qualitave design is used to interpret the figurative languge and value of Every Man’s Poetry by Sir Walter Ralegh poems. The writer wants to describe the data using qualitative research.
Furthermore, the writer finds sevent kinds of figurative laguages (personification, metaphore, antithesis, allusion, paralelism, hyperbole, and assosiation) and four kinds of values (religious value, ethical value, esthetical value and phylosopical value) that were used in this poems collection. The writer finds personification expression such in the first poem, it is in the first line, /Farewell, false love, thou oracle of lies/ Farewell is the utterance that the poet wants the false love go away from his life like human being leave their home to the far place. Besides in the first line, the writer also finds personification in the fifht line; /a temple full of treason;, ninth line; /A sea of sorrws, from whence are drawn such showers/, twelfth line; /A gilded hook that holds a poison’d bait;, and in the sixthteenth line; /A ranging cloud that runs before the wind; Besides personification, the writer also finds hyperbole. It can be seen in the eleventh line; /A school of guile, a nest of deep deceit; Also in the fourteenth line; /A siren song, a fever of the mind;. Here, the writer also finds another figurative language it is assosiation that can found in the seventeenth line; /Substance like a shadow of the sun;. The value expression found such in this poem is philosopy value because the poet tells an individual concept of life when he gets bedness in his life.
Finally the writer hopes that the readers should try to understand figurative language and value well, if they wanted to understand the collection of the poems.
Futhermore, the writer also suggests to the future reseacher that conduct similar theme of the study with more complete data and collection.
