Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study aimed at investigating of the meanings of- nya used by children at Al Hikmah Al Fathimiyyah. This naturalistic participant observation case study is focused on the utterance of subject aged 5 - 5.5-year-old.

The present study examines the use of form-nya in the Indonesian language on children who used Indonesian language live in Malang where the predominant inhabitants are Javanese. The question investigated is: what are the kinds of the meanings of -nya in the utterance of 5 - 5.5-year-old children at Al Hikmah Al Fathimiyyah.

The study involves two children of 5 and 5.5 years old who live in Malang. The data are obtained through participant observation and were collected from words or utterances of children’s conversation which were recorded.

The results of the data analysis reveal the following of seven types of -nya identifiable in the children utterances: pronoun dia for example kata nya, possessive dia for example tasnya, sandalnya, definitive marker for example uangnya, mejanya, nominalization for example minumnya, itunya, adverbial for example jadmya, makanya, possessive marker for example temennya Via, buku- bukunya ayah and pronominalization for example ustadzahnya, Usi ,nya. It also found the influence of Javanese in the form -nya for example cacinge, kamar mandine papa.

Based on the findings of the study, it is suggested for language teachers especially Indonesian teachers in elementary schools to give more emphasizes on teaching how the form-nya should be employed in Indonesian language. It is hoped that the form -nya is used appropriately based on standard Indonesian rules. It is worth implementing further studies dealing with the development in using the form-nya as well as the influence of regional dialect especially Javanese toward the use of the form٠z٦y،،. Finally, by delivering this thesis the writer hopes that in the future there will be more students who are interested in analyzing children’s language based on children language acquisition theory.
