Abstract

ABSTRACT

All verses in Holy Quran mean signs and explanations to human being. Especially Q.s. Ar-Rahman, most of them describe Allah Greatness، By listening to and understanding more all verses in Holy Qur’an, human can go out from difficulties and get the light in the form of truth and knowledge. Therefore, they will know the meaning of life. It is because Allah will always guide human way of life in this word by Qur’an. Then, they can implement what have written in Qur’an on their activity. Therefore, it is interesting to investigate the meaning of the verse 1زفبأي الآء ربكما تكذبان Q.s. Ar-Rahman. The general reason are: First, 31 of 78 verses have the same verses. So, the lexical meaning or locutionary act of those verses are same. Second, speech acts theory can be used not only to analyze human utterance but also Allah utterance in Qur’an, because holy Qur’an needs interpretation in order to know the intended meaning of Allah revelation deeply.

This research attempts to investigate what the speaker (Allah) intends to do by uttering the sentences. The question arise is what is the illocutionary act of the verse فبايالآء ربكما تكذبان in Q.s. Ar-Rahman?. The researcher objective is to describe the illocutionary act of the verse فبأي الآء ربكما تكذبان in Q.S. Ar- Rahman by analyzing this verse and the verse before it as the context.

In conducting the research, the researcher used qualitative research method. The data were taken from Holy Qur’an published by Departemen Agama R.L and its translation by Marmaduke Pickthall. The data is presented and analyzed one by one based on the contents of surah Ar-Rahman to look for the illocutionary act of the verse فبأي الآء ربكما تكذبان To triangulate the data findings, the researcher consulted the result of the analysis with two experts in Qur’anic interpretation.

After analyzing the data, the researcher found out that there are four kinds of illocutionary act of the verses فباي الآء ربكما تكذبان in Q.s. Ar-Rahman. They are assertion to convey information, warning, threatening, and promising. Most of them is promising of Allah for the faithful believer, they will get Allah Graces hereafter. The second is assertion to convey information. It describes all Allah grace for both man andjinni. rfhe third is threatening. It describes the punishment Ibr the guilty deny. So, they cannot escape from Him. And the fourth is warning It describes the potverful nature of Allah. He will do all whatever He wants to do. ٦١7ithout saying I promise you, Allah shows his promise by describing the paradise for faithful believer، Without saying I assert you/1 inform you, Allah shows information. Without saying I warn you, Allah warns both man and jinni. In addition, the last is without saying I threat you, Allah threats both man and jinni. It seems with the theory of speech acts that we can do thing with word if both speaker says something and hearer understand the intended meaning.

Finally, the researcher hopes that this research would give some advantages or useful for further researcher who concern in analyzing the same area.
