Semantic analysis on the translation of surah Yasin by Dr. Muhammad Taqiuddin Al-Hilali and Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan

ABSTRACT

Every word must have meaning that is why meaning has an important role either oral or written. We need a good understanding to know the implied meaning behind it. Because of the important of meaning, we can enhance our kno١vlcdge about meaning in linguistic, especially studying Semantics. Semantics is the study of meaning that is the meaning of words or phrases, sentences and discourse. Kinds of meaning are also found in the holy Quran as the revelation of Allah. Based on the background, this research is conducted with the problems “What kinds of meaning are involved on the translation of Surah Yasin by Dr. Muhammad Taqiuddin Al-Hilali and Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan?” and ،،What translation method did they use in translating Surah Yasin from Arabic into English?”

In analyzing this surah, the writer used a descriptive qualitative design because it doesn’t need variable and the data are analyzed qualitatively without using both numbers and statistical formula. The writer used the English translation by Dr. Muhammad Taqiuddin Al-Hilali and Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan as the relevant source of data. After reading and understanding the data obtained and also getting the data from internet, then she arranged the data which in accordance with the problems of the study systematically, after having arranged the the data systematically, she analyzed them in detail about meanings and the translation methods which are involved of each category.

The writer, found that there are three kinds of meaning which are involved on the translation of Surah Yasin by Dr. Muhammad Taqiuddin Al-Hilali and Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan. The most of these verses are the Sentence and utterance meaning. ٦١hen, it is followed by Discourse meaning and the fewest is Lexical meaning. There are eight translation methods but in this surah there are four kinds translation methods they used in translating surah Yasin from Arabic into English, they are Communicatwe translation is the most. Then, Semantic translation, Idiomatic translation, and the fewest is the Word for word translation.

Based on the findings, the writer suggests the readers, other researchers and English leaners who want to make this study as reference or for further researchers can analyze another style of English translation of the meaning of the holy Quran on Semantic study or other branches of linguistic point of view. She expects this study will be useful! for developing the literature, especially the translation of Surah Yasin. Besides, She hopes that this research will make omeone eager to know more about literary works in accordance with Semantic analysis.
