Abstract
ABSTRACT
Literature is an imaginative writing that can be used to express many aspects of life such as imagination, emotion, idea and experience. The basic aims of literature to give pleasure enjoyment and close relation toward life. One form of the literature is poem. Poem can be expressed in a song to show people are deep feeling, idea.
As we know, there are many kinds of music in this world especially in Indonesia such as keroncong, rock, jazz, pop, and dangdut songs. But, one that is close to the ordinary people is dangdut. Because, it has some kinds of instrument, which can make the peoples enjoy it, such as gendang, flute, guitar, keyboard, and stringed instruments. There are many people who despise the dangdut song. The writer analyzes figurative languages and messages of Ida Laila’s songs. Ida Laila is the senior dangdut singer and she also as the composer of her songs. She is different from other dangdut singers, because she has the important mission in it such as she wants to show religious, moral and social values by using dangdut as media.
There are some reasons that make the writer choose this topic. By listening to the song, we acquire knowledge about how to appreciate literature, and the background of poems. Therefore, he was interested in analyzing the figurative languages and the messages used in Ida Laila’s songs. The writer decided to give the title of his thesis 11 An Analysis on The Figurative Languages and The Messages in The Lyrics of Ida Laila’s Songs”.
The problems of the study are what kinds of figurative languages are used in Ida Laila’s songs? What is the dominant figurative language used in Ida Laila’s songs? And what are the messages found in Ida Laila’s songs? The writer limits the discussion of his thesis based on the figurative languages found in Ida Laila’s songs, the dominant of figurative language in each song and the messages (religious, social and moral). He takes ten songs from Ida Laila albums, which have been selected.
This study uses a descriptive qualitative method because he would like to analyze and interpret the research object of dangdut songs. The step how he obtained and collected all the data to be observed by looking for the cassettes of Ida Laila’s song album, understand the content of the cassettes and arranged the data in accordance the research questions. To corroborate the data, triangulation used in this study. The writer decided to use investigator triangulation. The writer analyzes ten songs of three Ida Laila albums. After the data had been collected, they are presented, analyzed, and concluded.
