Abstract
ABSTRACT
Females have always been in subordinate position in the society. The whole time in the history they always struggle for better position. It is proven that female often obtain unfair treatment and different opportunity in any aspect of life. Literature, especially novel, mirrors human life and their social condition. It can be influenced by ideas expand within society, for example gender and women’s studies. The interest and admiration towards the rights that exist in broad society and also great expectation to carry out women studies related to social analysis apparently always become interesting discussion and current affairs in our society. Those phenomena have been enthusiasm and motivation of this study.
The purpose of this study is to describe the rights of female in Javanese culture through the major female character that exist in novel “Tiga Orang Perempuan ” by Maria A. Sardjono. Second is to describe female’s perspectives in the novel “Tiga Orang Perempuan” about Javanese culture.
In this study, the writer uses descriptive qualitative, because the data are described descriptively. The data of this study were obtained from the novel entitled “Tiga Orang Perempuan ” by Maria A. Sardjono. ,The instrument that is used to collect the data is human instrument. That is the writer herself as the key of collecting the data.
There two important points can be found in this study. First, there are female rights that are found in novel “Tiga Orang Perempuan”, female position in Javanese culture, female rights in education, in family, in choosing partner, or in expressing feeling. Second is female’s perspective toward Javanese culture. There are female views about equal rights in Javanese culture and then female view about polygamy in Javanese culture in the novel. Actually, culture that related to major female character in novel “Tiga Orang Perempuan” explain that Javanese culture deny female rights, in the family and in society.
Finally, the writer is aware that this study is far from perfect and the writer expects that this study can be a stimulus for students who are interested in conducting a literary research mainly about novel
