Theme and characters in Qur'anic stories in Surah Hud

ABSTRACT

The stories in al-Quran have peculiarity and strength. Those explain US religious teachings and describe the consequence for those who challenge them. The qur’anic stories are different from the kind of the stories in other literary works like novel , short story, serial and so forth, in which their each element is fictional- imaginative, whereas the qur’anic stories are not other than objective reality. This study was focused on the qur’anic stories in surah Hud, and the approach used to analyze them are structural. So, the research about those stories was conducted with the following problem: Firstly, What are the kinds of characters presented in surah Hudl Secondly, What are the themes presented in surah Hud? Thirdly, How are they related?

This research was conducted by using criticism method based on structural approach. The data were in the forms of the sentences from three stories in surah Hud, they are: (1) The story of Noah and his followers, (2) The story ofHud and Aad, (3) The story of Moses and Pharaoh.

Data analysis revealed some findings covering the formulated research question. Firstly, the kinds of characters presented in surah Hud that are the character’s roles as a human being, as a Prophet, as a leader and so forth. Secondly, the theme presented in surah Hud that is the rightness will defeat the error. Thirdly, the related both theme and character were showed in allegories.

According to the findings of this research, it is recommended for the readers of a!-Qur’an to consider and comprehend the elements of the stories of the qur’anic stories when they read al-Qur’an. So that, they can understand the meanings of the qur’anic stories and then they can recognize the literary aspect that are founds in them. From those all they subsequently can understand and recognize the contents of al-Qur’an deeply. Furthermore, it is also recommended for the next researchers to use these findings as the additional reference and comparative qur’anic stories study. In addition, the next researchers can use the structural approach to conduct the research on the other qur’anic stories beside the three stories of surah Hud or they can use it as comparison when they study on the qur’anic stories using another approaches. Finally, this research would be usefol for every one who needs it.
