Abstract
ABSTRACT
This research target is to get description about code switching in transaction interaction at Batu traditional market. Code switching is form of language switching or language variation which has form of linguistics structure. Linguistics structure is focused on a word level and sentence. The word level has form of noun, adjective, numeral adjective, and pronoun. The sentence level has form of declarative sentence, imperative sentence and interrogative sentence.
The research design used in this research is the qualitative research design. The subjects are buyers and sellers at Batu market. The main data sources are verbal expression from sellers and buyers. That verbal data involves words, sentences, and phrases. The instrument here is the researcher himself. The researcher used two techniques in getting the data, they are active participation observation and non، active participation observation. And three steps did in the data analysis; those are data reduction, data discussion, and conclusion.
Based on the result of data analysis, we found the description about code switching in the transaction interaction at Batu market. Code switching has form of linguistics structure, which is indicated by using of concrete noun, adjective, demonstrative pronoun, and numeral adjective. The sentence levels consist of the declarative sentence, interrogative sentence, and imperative sentence. Code switching which has declarative sentence often occur in the transaction interaction process at Batu market, it is indicated by verbal answer. Code switching concern with interrogative sentence often appears in the transaction interaction at Batu market, it is indicated by the interrogative pronoun berapa (how much). Whether code switching which have form of imperative sentence, its appearance is indicated by the answer in the form of a direct action of addresser. The sellers and buyers in transaction interaction at market often use the choice of three sentences and four word forms. The form of language variations in transaction interaction used are Indonesian to Javanese or vice versa, Javanese low style to Javanese high style or vice versa.
