Javanese Dialect used by the employees of Gudang Garam cigarette company in Kediri

ABSTRACT

Essentially, the study of language in a society related to the utterances of people use it in their activities or interaction. Language is not only simply means of communicating and transferring the information but also has a great important role in establishing and maintaining the people relationship. Without language, it seems impossible for people to communicate with other and carry on their daily activities.

This study was started from the observation of the writer toward the Javanese dialect used by the employees of Gudang Garam Company. This research concern with the kind of Javanese dialect used by the employees of Gudang Garam Cigarette Company.

This research is descriptive qualitative research and the data Are in the form of the words, phrases, sentences and utterances of the employees of Gudang Garam Cigarette Company in which the data conducted from their natural conversation, and it is descriptive because it descrbed how is the used Javanese dialect in society and what is the characteristics of Javanese dialect used by the employees of Gudang Garam.

In conducting this research, the researcher used some instruments to help this work easier, more efficient, and more effective. Beside the researcher herselfs as the me in instrument, there were two instruments used by the researcher, observation and interview.

Gudang Garam is one of the biggest cigarette companies in Indonesia. The employees of Gudang Garam come from many different regions in Kediri. Mostly they used Javanese language. They use their original language to communicate each other. The Javanese dialect they used has different dialectical word. For example, the word ،،madhangTulung Agung people use the word “madhang mean eat, but Kediri people use “mangan ". There are also some characteristics that appear in the Javanese dialect used by the employees of Gudang Garam Company such as, the employees, which come from Nganjuk, they usually using “to" in every end of the sentences. It has the same way with Kediri people.

The employees which come from Blitar, usually use the word "ye” with special sound in the end of sentences. And the employees from east of Kediri usually used “tah” in the end of the sentences such as Paie, Mojokerto and Jombang.

،The researcher found something unique in the Javanese dialect used by the employees of Gudang Gari Cigarette Company. In one place, they can communicate each other with different Javanese dialectical and it is happened in their daily communication. And there are three factors influence the Javanese dialect used by the employees of Gudang Garam in society, they are: Social environment, social value, and physical environment.

Finally, the researcher hopes that this thesis could give contribution toward the researcher herself especially to the reader and to further researcher to conduct the research not only focused on Javanese dialect but also any aspect of dialect.
