Abstract

ABSTRACT

Literature is creative and imaginative writing to express many aspects of life. Literature is an imaginative work that is used to express emotion, mind and ideas based on experience. The existance of figurative language in literary work cannot be denied. Figurative language is an expression, which needs to be interpreted in order to achieve a particular effect. The examples of figurative language are personification, hyperbole, and so on. The problem discussed here is what kinds of figurative language are used in Rano Kamo’s songs. While the objective of this study is to find out the figurative language used in lyrics of Rano Kamo’s songs. In analyzing this study, the writer uses a descriptive qualitative method because he wants to find out the implied meaning in the form of text. This study also uses objective structuralism approach. Objective structuralism approach is used to analyze this data because of two reasons. The first reason that the writer analyzes intrinsic element of poetry or song, in this case is figurative language. The second reason that the data of this study are texts. From the data analysis the writer finds eleven figurative language expressions. They are antithesis, repetition, assonance, simile, hyperbole, crotesis, irony, symbol, personification, anaphora and metaphor.
