Abstract
ABSTRACT
One of the principal languages of Indonesia is Javanese language. It is the biggest regional language used in Indonesia. Beside that Javanese island is the largest island in Indonesia. There are many Javanese people lived out side of Java. They consider Javanese language as their mother tongue. They used to communicate with others by using Javanese language. As a regional language, Javanese language has style or levels, which has been growing slowly. Even, since the government socialized Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian language) to Indonesian people. Therefore, Javanese language has been forgotten step by step. Moreover, the’/ did not care about anggah- ungguhing or levels. However, the students of MTsN Kembangsawit still consider using Javanese language in some communication. It happened when they supposed that Javanese language had more intimacy than Bahasa Indonesia.
Based on the phenomena, this study was conducted. It focused on the use of Javanese language by the students to their teachers. This study has two problems. They are about Javanese speech levels used by the students to their teacher in Madrasah Tsanawiyah Kembangsawit and how they use them to their teachers. And automatically the objectives are to identify Javanese speech levels used by students to their teachers in Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri Kembangsawit Madiun and to desc١٦be the ways that they speak Javanese language to their teachers. Here, the writer took the students of MTsN Kembangsawit’located in JLRaya Kebonsari Madiun as the subject of the study. Meanwhile the data were collected through interview and observation.
Then the data gotten were analyzed based on the problems of the study. Finally the analysis resulted: 1). The students feel enjoyable in communicating with their teachers by using Javanese language including ngoko, madya and krama. Krama is often used by students in making conversation to their teachers. The students rarely use ngoko speech style when they are communicating with their teachers. 2). The students still consider that Javanese language as one of regional language, which they proudly have. They use Javanese language to honor or respect their teachers as older people. On the other hand, they want to be close in communicating with them. Then, they want to get warm conversation like a friend And the last, they want to show that they are able to speak Javanese language.
Finally, after discussing all the problems of the study the writer proposed some suggestions. The writer suggests to the students of MTsN to keep taking care of Javanese language and to do what their teachers explain about the important of Javanese language. The last the writer suggests to the next researchers to more explore the research in this phenomenon.
