A literary analysis on figurative language and message in song lyrics by Suara Persaudaraan

ABSTRACT

Literature is work of art produced by human being either spoken or written. It is to entertain and give pleasure to people. One form of literature is poem. The poem that is sung is called lyrics of song. The composer expresses his feeling, thought and the willingness by song. He usually uses the figurative language to convey the message.

The kinds of songs are pop, rock j azz and dangdut. One of Islamic songs which are famous is ،،nasyid”. The nasyid is a form of Moslem religious song in harmony to the accompaniment of local and middle Easter from drummed played in interlocking rhythm. One of nasyid group is Suara Persaudaraan. It is one of the Indonesian nasyid groups that famous and still exists in music stage.

In the study, the writer has entitled “A Literary Analysis on Figurative Language and Message in Song Lyrics by Suara Persaudaraan. The research problems are what the kinds of figurative language and message is used in the lyrics by suara persaudaraan songs. She takes fifteen songs from suara persaudaraan songs album which had been selected from the first until the third album

In this study the writer used descriptive qualitative. There are steps which done by her. To collect data such as collecting the cassette, reading and listening the text of the song lyrics and comprehending the contexts on the song lyrics and the last is selecting and arranging the data systematically based on the study. To answer the problems of the study, the data were analyzed systematically using some steps; The first step is identifying the figurative languages that are used in lyrics songs of Suara Persaudaraan. The second step is that the writer decided and classified the kinds of figurative language, then found out the message and made tentative conclusion. Finally, she transcribed the data of Suara Persaudaraan song.

The result of this study show that the figurative language in song lyrics by Suara Persaudaraan are antithesis, epithet, hyperbole, metaphor, personification, repetition and simile. The message is considering and remembering Allah is important in order our life is useful.

Finally, by analyzing song lyrics of Suara Persaudaraan; the readers are expected to know kinds of figurative language and understand more detail about the hidden message which have explored by the researcher. The writer hopes the literature lectures give the material about the literary works more especially about theory of the figurative language and message. In the next the writer also hopes the next researcher analyze song lyrics by Suara Persaudaraan by different the point of view because in there are still language characteristic. They are interesting be researched. The last, the writer hopes Suara Persaudaraan will always in stage music. Moreover, it will release the new albums by using language is more artistic and beautiful.
