Abstract

ABSTRACT

Literature is creative and imaginative works of art which can be used to express many aspect of life such as people emotion, ideas and expression. The aim of literature is to entertain and give pleasure to people. The existence of figurative language can not be denied and avoided. Figurative language is usually applied in a poem in order to enlarge the meaning of certain words. The uniqueness of figurative language is that someone can’t understand it by only reading at a glance but we have heard to understand and to comprehend the lyrics of song which contain figurative language.

Figurative language also found on lyrics of songs written by Indonesian composers one of them is Ebiet G. Ade. Their special characteristics are their poetic song, and the lyrics of song contain Islamic values, sing the fact reality in express feeling that happen around us and they try to deliver the message for their listener.

The problem discussed here about the usage of figurative language, the classification of language style and the message. Taken from eight songs ( Anak Jalanan, Kusadari, Arti Cinta, Lorong Kehidupan, Kutemukan Jalanku, Temaram Kasih Putih, Salam Sejahtera Bosnia.) from the best of the best album.

The writer obtained and collected all data to be observed. By look for the cassette of Ebiet G. Ade’s songs that have figurative language, select eight song’s making record the data sources and arrange the data in accordance with research question. To corroborate the data, triangulation is used in this study, rhe writer decided to use triangulation of the data sources and methodological triangulation. The technique in analyzing the data is finding triangulation.

From the analysis, the writer concludes; firstly, figurative language exist in some of Ebiet G. Ade’s songs they are hyperbole, personification, metaphor, simile, and antithesis, secondly, the usage of classification of language style is informal language style which describe reader’s desire as high artistic values of the lyrics of song. Third, the message in Ebiet G. Ade’s song contains Islamic values.
