Deixis used in conversations between broadcaster and the guests in dialog interaktif broadcasted bv Andalus FM

ABSTRACT

This study focuses on analyzing the conversation of Andalus FM broadcaster and the guests using theory of Karl Buhler, Deixis is a part of discourse analysis study and concerned with meaning that is inferred from a word, utterance or sentence. Radio is considered effective to promote the products as it has function as expression media, communication, information, education, and entertainment media. Based on the background, this research is conducted with the following problem ،،how is deixis used by broadcaster and the guests of Dialog Interaktif Andalus FM.”

Tdis research is conducted using descriptive qualitative method based on Karl Buhler's theory of deixis. The data are in the forms of utterances or words in the conversations between Andalus FM broadcaster and the guests. The data are selected from the conversations between Andalus FM broadcaster and the guests from May 1 to June 302004 و.

Data analysis shows some findings covering the formulated research question. The deixis used in conversation of ،،Dialog Interaktif’ between Andalus FM broadcaster and the guests could be person deixis, place deixis and time deixis. Person deixis was used when the broadcaster or the guest mention the participant role of reference, such as the speaker or addressee. In addition, place deixis was used when the broadcaster or the guests want to show the location of a participant in the speech event. Furthermore, time deixis was used when the broadcaster or the guests want to show the time or temporal reference point.

Based on those findings, it is recommended for the next researchers to conduct researches 0٦ the daily conversations occurred in natural settings. In addition, it is also suggested to use Levinson’s deixis theory on some other areas.
