Abstract
ABSTRACT
Dialect can be called as one of the indicators where people come from, for example Javanese dialect. Javanese is spoken by approximately 75,500,000 people and at least 45 % of the whole population of Indonesia live in an area where Javanese is the dominant language. Pangkah Kulon and Gosari are the smallest part of Javanese area. Therefore, Pangkah Kulon and Gosari dialect are very interesting to be investigated because dialect in these two places are so unique due to they have very close distance, for about three kilometers. That is why, this study is intended to find out the differences of Javanese dialect used by Pangkah Kulon and Gosari people.
This study is different from previous studies because those studied dialect in the large areas only, regency and district, but this study investigated the dialect between two villages. Then, it hopefully gives a new input for sociolinguistic study, especially on analyzing the dialect difference and students in increasing empirical data and for further researchers as additional reference.
This study used descriptive qualitative design because it is to describe the phenomena of dialect used by Pangkah Kulon and Gosari people. The data were utterances uttered by them. In collecting the data, the researcher did observation and interview. She collected the data by visiting the informants and asking them structured words, they consist of 110 words. After the data gained the researcher transcribed the recorded interview and field notes, then classified them based on parts of speech and analyzed them based on research problem. The researcher analyzed them by using descriptive method. In addition, the researcher used table to group the data findings. Then, rechecked the findings with the informants.
Finally, from this analysis, the researcher found 97 words that could be used as data from 110 words prepared. The differences between them are in the form of writing, pronunciation, phonology and morphology. Furthermore, the researcher suggested to the others who want to analyze dialect to develop it in different subject, object and also problems of the study.
