Abstract
ABSTRACT
The development of science and technology encourages people to use the results of it in teaching-learning process. The teacher should be able to use the available media to increase the students' achievement. Media has an important role in teaching-learning process because media can motivate and make students understand the topic more easily, it can be visual, audio, and audio-visual. ,The teacher should know how to motivate the student as well as possible. Therefore, the teachers have to select and use appropriate media and use good instructional materials in order to motivate and attract the students. The use of media in teaching learning process will help both the student and the teacher, the teacher can explain or give information easily and the student directly understand what the teacher talks about or what the teacher means. Because, the use of instructional media in the teaching learning process is intended to make the teaching learning outcomes better, media can be used to make the explanation clearer and easier to understand.
In this research, there are three research problems: The first is what kinds of media do the English teachers use in teaching English at MAN 3 Malang?, The next is how do the English teachers use the media in teaching English at MAN 3 Malang?, and the last is what kinds of media are mostly used by the teacher at MAN 3 Malang?. The objectives or the purposes of this study are to find out: The kinds of media which are used by the English teachers in teaching learning process at MAN 3 Malang, the way in using the media in teaching learning process at MAN 3 Malang, and the media which are frequently used by the teachers in teaching learning process at MAN 3 Malang. ,The findings of this research are expected to give contributions for the institution to add the collections of media, and for the English teachers to give more information or to add insight into the use of media in teaching-learning process visual, audio, and audio visual. For the researcher to give more information about the importance of media in teaching, especially in teaching English as second language.
In this study the researcher uses descriptive research because descriptive research is not generally directed toward hypothesis testing but just seeking information to assist the decision making. The research instruments used in this research are: observation, interview and documentation. And to analyze the data the writer used the steps as follows: Classifying the data, describing the data that were obtained from field, and then reducing unimportant data, discussing the whole data and the last steps is making the conclusion of it.
Based on the findings and discussions, it was found out that there are many kinds of media which are used by English teachers in teaching and learning, such as: language laboratories, television, video, overhead projector, tape, and educational video compact disk. The English teachers at MAN 3 Malang usually use one instructional media for several meetings. And they also used the same media for teaching the same topic in different classes. Most of English teacher at MAN 3 Malang are able to use the media which are provided in the school. Each of English teacher has different ways in using the instructional media, they have different strategies from others. There is medium which is rarely used, namely Overhead ٠ projector because it needs other media such as: transparency and transparency pen. It also spent a long time in using this kind of media. Besides, there are the media which are frequently used, such as: television, word cards, and language laboratories.
