Problems of translating english text by beginner translators in Hermesgroups Malang

ABSTRACT

Translation is a process of reproducing in the receptor language at the closest natural equivalent of the source language message first in terms of meaning and secondly in terms of style. In other words, translation is a transfer of meaning, message and style in source language text (SLT) to the receptor language text (RLT) The definition of translation can safely be defined as substituting a text in a source language (SL) with that in a receptor one (RL), the result shows similar semantic and pragmatic aspects. This causes the readers of the RL text understand the text the same way with the readers of the SL text do. So, in order the translator is able to do this, he has to master the RL into which the SL text is translated.

This research attempts to investigate the problems of the beginner translators in translating English text. The question arises is: What are the problems of beginner translators in translating the Source Language Text into the Receptor Language Text? The researcher objective is to find out the problems of beginner translators through their mistakes in translating the Source Language Text into the Receptor Language Text
In conducting the research, the researcher used qualitative method as a way to describe, analyze and collect the data. This research would give contribution to the translation fields especially for the beginner translators who are expected to think, rethink and consider the best methods and the main points in translating process, besides able to find a good solution when facing the problems in translating texts.

This research reveals that there are many problems faced by the beginner translators in translating English text such us: diction, the usage of translation method, arranging the target language sentence, grammatical, additional and deducting of words, reference, The usage of “aku, saya and kamu, anda” in the target language, reality, untranslatable text, and word’s repetition
