Abstract
ABSTRACT
Literature is writing that is valued as work of arts can be used to express many aspect oflife such as emotion, ideas and expression. The aim of literature is to entertain and give pleasure to people. One form of literature is poetry. Poetry can be expressed in the form of songs that represent the feeling of the song.
In the term of song writing, the song writer often expresses Figurative Language to make it beautiful. The existent of figurative language can not be denied and avoided. Figurative Language is usually applied in a poem in order to enlarge the meaning of containt words.
The uniqenes of figurative Language is that can not be understood only by reading at the glame but has to be understood to comprehend. The lyric of songs, which contain figurative language.
Figurative language also found on lyrics of song written by Indonesian, composer, one of them is Melly Goeslow. The special Characteristic in her lyric songs is they contain a bout love, real life, and the lyrics just little but always repeated.
The problems discussed here are about figurative language and which one is the dominant one. Taken from nine songs, they are: Pujaanku, ingin mencintai dan di cintai, Diam, Bercintalah denganku, Paling tidak, Dunia milik berdua, Tak tahan lagi,' Bagaikan langit and the last is Bulan ke dua.
The writer obtained and collected all data to be observed by looking for the cassette of Melly Goeslow's songs that have many of figurative language, than record the data sources selected figurative language. To corroborate the data, the writer used the literary critics.
From the findings, the writer has found the figurative language in this study. They are personification, hyperbole, repetition, assonance, irony, antithesis and metaphor. The writer found personification is the dominant one, which appears in the lyrics of Melly Goeslow’s songs.
The writer suggest the reader or the other researchers who wants to condact similar study, they can analyze the other types of figurative language in the lyrics of songs, such as semantical and sociological aspects which can be found in some of their songs.
