Abstract
ABSTRACT
Javanese language is one of the regional languages that has the greatest number of speakers in Indonesia. As a language, Javanese is also used in sending and receiving information, producing ideas and expressing thought to other people.
There are many interesting phenomena that can be found in the use of Javanese language. One of them is the existence of compounds. That is the forming words by combining two or more words to create new meaning.
In this study the researcher focuses on the form and the meaning of Javanese compounds. Rejosari village that is located about 20 km from Blitar is one of the districts in which most of people are Javanese and use Javanese language in daily communication. The researcher found so many compounds used when they are interacting with others. It becomes the reason why the researcher chooses Rejosari as the object of the study.
The researcher hopes that her study gives contribution toward linguistic study especially about Javanese compounds. It is also expected that this study can enrich Javanese language through the use of Javanese compounds. Moreover, it gives information about Javanese language to other researchers especially who want to understand their knowledge of Javanese language.
This study is descriptive qualitative research in which the data were presented in the form of word to describe how Javanese compounds are constructed. To get the scientific data, the researcher used observation and interview. To make more complete, she also made note field and used tape recorder to get information needed.
The results of the study were the first; there are several forms of Javanese compounds. They are; compound nouns, compound verbs, compound adjectives, and compound adverbs. The researcher also found compound with unique morphemes. Based on the combination of words Javanese compounds can produce various meaning.
Based on the data analysis, the researcher proposes some suggestions to Javanese people to increase their understanding about Javanese compounds especially about the meaning. She also suggests to further researchers to more explore not only about Javanese compounds but also anything relates to Javanese language remember that there are other phenomena of Javanese language that very interesting to investigate.
