Abstract

ABSTRACT

Translation that is considered as a bridge in international communication has important part for nations in the world. Through translation, a nation can exchange toward :mother nation about science, technology, social-culture, and more. For the best result, a translation should consider some aspects related to the translation theories such as stylistic and translation procedures. These theories make a translation process is notjust translate word by word. A good translation always involves some considerations related to the two theories such as language style, diction, interpretation, grammar, cross culture understanding, and more.

This research is about language styles and translation procedures used in the translation of Maurice’s ،،Emotionally Intelligent Parenting”. The research problems of this research were formulated on the questions: What are the language style and their functions used in the translation of Maurice’ ،،Emotionally Intelligent Parenting” And What are the translation procedures used in the translation of Maurice’s ،،Emotionally Intelligent Parenting”

T’١:S research is conducted *using descriptie qualitative method and the researcher is the main instrument to collect data. The data are every sentences of the source language that has uniqueness in meaning in the target language.

،The discussion in this research uses Hogins and Lillard theories on the language style, and Suryawinata and Hariyanto theories on the translation procedures. The data are analyzed based on the theories and finally the researcher makes a conclusion of what he studied.

For the result, this study has three conclusions. The first, the researcher found three types of language style. They are formal, informal, and colloquial style. The second, there are four functions of the language styles. The first function is to increase the readers’ taste, the second is to persuade the readers, the third is to add the artistic effect, and the last is to make the idea of source language clear. The third, the translation procedures involved in this translation book are structural, cultural, synonym, deletion, and modulation procedures.
