A study of language Taboo used in Shinchan cartoon

ABSTRACT

Language taboo is A language which is avoided to be said in social relation. Usually it is related to society, culture, religion. It ١vi 11 be very important to say the language taboo. Unfortunatelly it can be found easily in Cartoons today, especially in Shinchan cartoon which is loved by almost all children in Indonesia. The language taboo in this cartoon is very clear and vulgar, and this is very dangerous for children, because they can immitate it in their words and its bad values can influence their moral.

This study is aimed at answering the following research problems: 1). What are the taboo words and phrases which are found in Shinchan cartoon? 2). How are the language taboo in Shinchan cartoon classified? 3). What are the differencies between the language taboo used in Shinchan Cartoon and the language taboo used in Shinchan comic?.

The porpose of this study are to know the taboo words and phrases which are used in Sahinchan Cartoon, to describr the classification of language taboos used in Shinchan Cartoon, and to know the differencies between the language taboo that used in Shinchan Cartoon and the language taboo used in Shinchan Comic.

This study use descriptive qualitative design, the researcher just intends to describe the data obtained as they were found in the object of the study, and the adata in the form of words not number. Therefore in this research, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative design as the research design.

The inding werw achieved by analysing Shinchan Comic and Shinchan Cartoon which is presented on television. The result shows that the language taboo in Shinchan Carton and Shinchan comic can be devided into four forms. They are words, phrases, sentences, and behaviors. The four forms can be classified into four categories, they are: Obscene words, Ominous expression functioning as insults, and common sentences to be said by children and Obscene behaviors. Lnguage taboo that used in Shinchan Cartoon is different with the language taboo that used in Shinchan Comic. Languages taboo that used in Shinchan comic are clearer and more vulgar than the languages taboo that used in Shinchan cartoon. Most of them are related to sex matter, but the languages taboo that used in Shinchan cartoon are related to a mischief of children.

From the study the researcher suggests parents to be careful in selecting the most suitable cartoon for their children. Parents must be able to choose a cartoons which have edicative values for children. Beside that the researcher also suggests the Indonesian film censor institution to be more explicit in censoring the entrance of foreign films to Indonesia.
