Abstract
ABSTRACT
Based on the agreement of all Kindergarten teachers in Dinoyo Malang, English was eventually taught to kindergarten students as one of the local subjects. To teach English well, there are several factors to be taken into account, young learners characteristics, appropriate instructional materials to apply, teaching methods and teaching media.
This research is intended to describe English Teaching Learning Process at Dharma Wanita 01 Dinoyo Kindergarten, Malang. It covered the objectives of the teaching of English, instructional material, teaching methods and teaching media. The problems which are faced by the English teacher of Dharma Wanita 01 Dinoyo Kindergarten in teaching English and the problem solving.
This study used descriptive qualitative research design in form of case study. To obtain the data two instruments were used, namely interview and observation.
The result showed that dealing with the teaching of English in Kindergarten, the objectives of the teaching of English at Kindergarten are generally. The students were expected to have four basic competence in listening, speaking, reading and writing skill. Specifically they were expected to mastering vocabulary given. Deal with the instructional material, it is good enough. 'The material included part of body, animals, the objects of school, transportation, etcetera) In regards to the teaching methods, the teacher used repeating technique, drilling, asking and answering, singing and group work. Concerning with the teaching media, the teacher used picture books and realia.
The problems were faced by the teacher in teaching English. The problems were the noisy students, the students bored and unmotivated and lack of media. The English teacher has tried to solved those problems. By dividing the students into two groups, using singing method and giving reinforcement to the students. The researcher suggest that it is necessary for Kindergarten teacher to improve the teaching methods by using several techniques like telling story, demonstration and playing. The teacher should have some medias such as doll, toys, real object, card, story book and tape. If it is possible it should be added a new class and one more English teacher. So the teacher easy to handle her students in teaching learning process. The teacher should have high motivation and awareness in her teaching because it is her duty. The researcher believes that those ways will improve the English teaching learning process especially for the teaching learning English in Kindergarten.
