Abstract
ABSTRACT
Nowadays, translation of scientific books is getting raised. It is because of the people’s great needs to the foreign languages. Foreign languages are related to the development of countries, especially developing countries. It can be seen from the need of Indonesia, for example, to foreign languages, especially English.
A country like Indonesia may not neglect what which is so-called translation. Translation should be one of national projects of Indonesian government. The government should give more attention because it can help a lot to get national establishment. By translation, people who cannot use foreign languages can easily use any foreign product after the translation of the clues into Indonesian language. This matter will minimize people’s fear of using and consuming the foreign products and because of this, it means hat the country will be gradually developed.
There are some definitions of translation stated by the experts. Catfors, as quoted by Rahmadie, Suryawimnata, and effendi (1988: 1.2), states that translation is the replacement of textual material in one language by equivalent textual material in another language. Nida and Taber (1982: 120) see that translation is a process of reproducing in the receptor language the closest natural equivalence of the source language message, first in term of meaning and secondly in term of style. But, from the definition, it can be said that translation is a process of replacing or reproducing or transferring ideas or thoughts or messages from the source language text or material or concept into its target language equivalence in such away that you retain the meaning and style.
One of the translation theories the translator should know is that of translation procedures. Translation procedures are the ways that are used by the translator to translate the source language text into the target language text. Translation procedures are the technical devices used to transfer the meaning of text in one language into a text in another language.
Based on the explanation above, this research is aimed to answer one research problem, i.e., what procedures are used to translate the religious terms form Humanity; belief, andlslam into Alegori Kebenaran Ilahi? The researcher limits this research only in the Introduction to the fifth word of the data sources, i.e., the source ألاحأحئ١ةلجااًةل Humanity, belief, and Islam ألاحا حلآل١ه٦١ة Alegori Kebenaran Ilahi.
This research is descriptive qualitative research because the data are in the form of sentences or words rather that numbers. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative design in which the data analyzed and interpreted based on the theories of the translation procedures of words or phrases.
The research instrument is the researcher himself as the main instrument. To analyze the data, he uses the following steps. They are(l) Identifying the source language religious term with their translations in the target language and presenting in sentences, (2) Identifying the translation procedures used to translate the source language religious terms into the target language ones, and (3) discussing the procedures used to translate the source language religious terms into the target language ones.
Based on the data presentation and discussion, it is concluded that in translating the religious terms in Humanity، belief, and Islam from the Introduction to the fifth word, the translators uses some translation procedures to translate words or phrases. They are transference, cultural equivalence, synonym, recognized translation, reduction, expansion, transposition or shifting, addition, deletion, literal translation, and modulation. So, here the translators use eleven translation procedures to translate religious terms, words and phrases.
