Abstract
ABSTRACT
As a human being, it is impossible for US to avoid making conversations with other people everyday. In having the conversations, it includes language that is principally as a means of communication to perform their feelings and ideas and to fulfill their other needs as well as to send or receive the information.
Song involves much more than a language that can do to state or convey facts. In a song, then we find utterances which are made by composer to express his/ her ideas or feelings. Related to the fact above, this study discusses the use of speech acts in a song, especially the speech acts used in the lyrics of PopOK album of Project Pop. Several reasons underlie the selection of PopOK album as the object of analysis. Firstly, the lyrics in this album contain interesting words or utterances. Secondly, the way of Project Pop expresses the ideas is unique, they use tactic of conversation in their songs. So, it indicates that they use utterances that can be found in daily communication. It guides this analysis to analyze speech acts which are used in the lyrics by taking account into felicity conditions.
The descriptive qualitative research is as design to describe the speech acts. The data that are in the form of utterances are collected from the texts in the lyrics of PopOK album. They consist of 54 dialogues of the lyrics that are gathered into 10 data accordance to the title of each song.
Based on research findings, it was found out that the illocutionary acts used in the lyrics of Project Pop album ،PopOK’ are directive in the form of asking and requesting, assertive is performed in stating and suggesting, commissive in the form of promise and guarantee and the last expressive restricts for thanking and deploring. These illocutionary acts fulfilled the four certain felicity conditions namely propositional content, preparatory, sincerity and essential condition. However, the declarative illocutionary acts are not found in this analysis, because these are specialized for the use within a particular cultural system, like in government.
This analysis is expected to be a new additional source of information for increasing the knowledge of the speech acts theory especially concerning with illocutionary acts by taking account into felicity conditions. Furthermore, it is suggested to others who want to conduct a research on the speech acts to analyze declarative illocutionary acts that are specifically used within a particular cultural system in a government in the form of data oral.
