An analysis on allusion in John Keats٠s on first looking into champman's homer

ABSTRACT

Literature is one of the most creative and universal means of communicating the emotion, spiritual, and intellectual concerning mankind. Here, the mankind is the human race who wants to make or interpret the meaning of any text or event and it depends on how we connect it to the textual or contextual information. Every word has to have meaning, which is why meaning has an important role either oral or written.

Many of the poets use different symbol forms or figure of speech in their poem. The purpose of using figure of speech is not to make something confusing, but it is used to make it clear and nice, such as allusion. It is a brief reference to a person, event, or place, real or fictitious, or to a work of art. Casual reference to a famous historical or literary figure or event. An allusion might be drawn from history, geography, literature, or religion. Thus, this study is focused on Allusion ل٠س١ ه s on First Looking into Chapman’s Homer (1795-1821) Related to this case, this study aims at answering the following two research problems. First, knowing what kinds of allusions are used in John Keats’s On First Looking into Chapman'S Homer. Second, knowing how John ة١ل١ذحلآلم١هاةعاً ahVonOn First Looking into Chapman’s Homer.

In analyzing this study, the researcher used a descriptive qualitative design because it does not need variable and the data are analyzed qualitatively without using both numbers and statistical formula. To conduct this study, a qualitative method is used to review literary research dealing with the research problems. This study is a historical research, especially an erroneous historical fact or On First Looking into Chapman’s Homer ة لس¥ه١0١ ال١ ص؟ل١ فذ لهء١١٠١

After reading and understanding the poem. He collect the data, he arranges the data, which in accordance with the problems of the study systematically. Then, he analyzes them in detail about meanings used in the poem.

The researcher found that there are so many allusions used in On First Looking into Chapman ,s Homer poem. John Keats showed the justice or rightness by using an allusion. It is matter of fact that an allusion is hard in poetry and it has to be understood.

Based on the findings, the researcher expects this study will be useful for developing the literature, especially the allusion figurative language. Besides, he hopes that this research will make someone eager to know more about literary works in accordance with allusion analysis.
