Abstract
ABSTRACT
Novel is aliterary work in the form of prose describing human life, attitude, action, even representing history, ect. They are many kinds of novel that can be found in the work of literature. One of them is an autobiographical novel. It is the novel whose story is based on the author’s experiences.
To get the proof tha* autobiographical novel is a novel that written basedon the experience of the author, the reflection of F. Scott fitzgerald’s life in The Great Gatsby is chosen as the subject of the study.
The purposes of the study are: To describe what experiences Gatsby has in The Great Gatsby and To describe how does Gatsby’s experience reflects the author’s experiences.
This study uses autobiographical approach. It is representation of complex life experiences of complex life experiences, involve more than simply the “cognitive side” of wisdom, actions, emotions and cognitions.The data are taken from the original novel of F. Scott Fitzgerald The Great Gatsby that was published by Maxwell Macmillan International: New York, (1925). This book contains of 216 pages.
From the result of data analysis, it can be concluded that there are many Gatsby’s experiences that can be found in The Great Gatsby, they are his education, his joining the army, his being an educated man, his meeting with his partner of life, his extravagant living, his broken love, his being drunkard, his family’s class, his father job, and his hobby.
There are many Gatsby’s experiences that reflected of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s life, they are his education, his joining the army, his being an educated man, his meeting with his partner of life, his extravagant living, his broken love, his being drunkard, his family’s class, his father’sjob, and his hobby.
Finally, for the next researcher it is suggested to do the research in another aspects. Besides biographical aspects, the novel can also be analyzed using psychological, linguistic, cultural studies, feminist, Marxist and many more.
