Abstract
ABSTRACT
As social creature people need others to fulfill their needs and help them solve their problems. Therefore, they create language as a communication tool. There are many languages in this world such as; Indonesian, English, Japanese, Arabic and soon. People who communicate in one language are called monolinguals when they can speak two languages; they are called bilinguals, while multilingual refers to those people who can speak more than two languages. There are many medium to express languages as communication tool.
Television is medium of communication that uses voice and picture to transfer messages. Most of TV in Indonesia shows program about Indonesian Artists, such Kiss in INDOS I AR, Cek Ricek and Kabar-kabari in RCTI, Hot Shot and Hallo Selebrili on SCTV, and many infotainment from other channel, which have similar program. In this study the writer takes the object of research from one of TV program by title ،،Celebrities information program”. Indonesian Artists often use more than one language; therefore they often mix some languages in their speech. The purpose of this study is to describe about the code mixing usually used and the characteristics of code mixing used by Indonesian Artists.
The writer used descriptive qualitative research. Observation is one of instrument that is used in this study, which combines with recording, field note and transcribing. This research studied are words, phrase, and sentences from Indonesian Artists like Vena Melinda, Yuke, Paramita Rusadi, Dani Dewa, Ivan, Katon Bagaskara, Ike Nurjanah, Reza, Sandy Nayoan, Sarah Azhari, Syaharani..
From the analysis, it is found out that, first: the code usually used is code mixing which mix Indonesian into Jakarta dialect, Jakarta dialect into Indonesian and Indonesian into English. Second, the characteristics of code mixing used are interference. Interference occurs in the level of word, phrase, pronunciation and Indonesian affixation, they are English words that come together with Indonesian prefix or suffix, English plural with Indonesian format, Indonesian konfix, Jakarta dialect. In addition interference occurs in borrowing language, like Indonesian language borrowed from English and Javanese language term.
It is concluded that the Indonesian Artists often mixes code Indonesian, English and Jakarta dialect in their speeches on Television, and the characteristics of code mixing used are interference and language borrowing. Interference used in level of word, pronunciation, phrase, and sentence. In addition languages borrowed that found are Indonesian language borrowed from English language and Javanese language. Finally it is suggested to other students who are interested in sociolinguistics, to pay more attention to the code mixing, especially interference or language borrowing in another field.
