Eplicatures found in the opini section of Al-Zaytun magazines

ABSTRACT

Magazine as a written of communication functions to exchange ideas, share good practice, voice opinions, and describe developments to help deliver the primary care agenda. There are many Islamic magazines that are published in Indonesia. One of them is Al-Zaytun magazine. Al-Zaytun magazine always serves the news, needs, curioties that are needed by people. They want to get more information about development of Islamic education.

Related to the phenomena above, this research aims to answer the research question of ”How are the explicaturcs used in the title of opini section in the Al-Zaytun magazines?”. The researcher limits this research only the titles of opini section of Al- Zaytun magazines.

This research is a descriptive qualitative research, because it tries to describe and explain the data naturally and descriptively. The data used are Opini section in the Al- Zaytun magazines from July 10, 2004 - June 102005 و. The research instrument is the writer herself as the main instrument. To analyze the data, she uses the following steps. Firstly, determine the reference assignment by looking for presupposition, inference, and implicature. Secondly, conducting processes of disambiguation by determining the intended meanings. The last, conducting enrichment the word by determining encyclopedic knowledge of the world and finding out some propositions.

Based on the data analysis, it is showed that explicattires included in the opini section of Al-Zaytun magazines can be gotten from the context and three pragmatic. These titles can be analyzed with the same analysis because these titles make interpretation for readers. So, the readers need information explicitly. To understand the titles, readers need the context at that time because the titles show the condition and situation the event happened.

These findings are recommended for the journalist to get the explicit meanings. It is recommended to the teachers of English Letters and Language Department to develop knowledge in discourse studies. To the college students of English Letters and Language Department can use this as reference to get knowledge and to better understand the utterances and the words in the titles. Furthermore, it is also recommended for the next researchers should discuss similar studies that involve more complete data in other areas that relevant to phenomena such as Sociolinguistics and Psycholinguistics.
