An analysis on figurative language used in Perempuan Berkalung Sorban by Abidah El Khalieqy

ABSTRACT

Most of people create and enjoy literary works. Through literary works, they can express their feeling, experiences, emotion, and imagination in the form of prose, poem, play, short story, novel, etc. It is created to give pleasure, to entertain and even to give some lessons to who voluntarily attend to it. Further, literature is one of rhe ways people express their idea to the other people. It can share the creature of literature’s idea with the people who enjoy it. It also can give some ]positive effects to them; enrich their experience in life. And by literature they can get some knowledge they want especially about life.

This study points on an analysis on figurative language used in Perempuan Berkalung Sorban by Abidah el Khalieqy. Concerned with the title of this study, the aim of this study is to present and describe the kinds of figurative language used in the novel Perempuan Berkalung Sorban. Besides, this study is also aimed to present the dominant kind of figurative language used in Perempuan Berkalung Sorban.

This study applies descriptive qualitative technique since in this study the writer relies on narrative description. And in collecting the data, she uses the procedures: (1) finding the novel Perempuan Berkalung Sorban, (2) reading and comprehending Perempuan Berkalung Sorban that is written by Abidah el Khalieqy, (3) finding the expressions contain figurative language used in Perempuan Berkalung Sorban novel.

In the result of this study, she finds more than one kind of figurative language used in the novel Perempuan Berkalung Sorban. They are personification, hyperbole, simile, and metaphor. She also finds that the dominant kind of figurative language used in this novel is hyperbole.

Finally, the writer concludes that there are some kinds of figuratine language used in the novel Perempuan Berkalung Sorban (personification, hyperbole, simile, and metaphor). And hyperbole is the dominant kind of figurative language used in the novel Perempuan Berkalung Sorban by Abidah el Khalieqy.
