Abstract
ABSTRACT
Literature has esthetic values and attractive subject for reader thought, sometimes it needs relatively long time to understand, but it usually attracts people from its beauty. Here literature not only for enjoyed but also understood and interpreted. One of literature form is drama or play as the research area of the writer. Drama consist of a series of actions meant to be performed on the stage by li\'e actors for an audience.
This writing concerns the discussion of figurative expression by A.A Milne drama. This study has tree statements of problems, they are: (1) how many kinds of figurative languages are there in the play of ،Ugly Duckling’? (2) What are the dominant figurative languages used in the play of ،Ugly Duckling’? (3) What are the lessons that we can take from the story? There for, this research will be specifically focuses on figurative language. The purposes of this study which used in the play of ،Ugly Duckling’ by A.A Milne are: (l)to know the kinds of figurative language A.A Milne especially in ،Ugly Duckling’ (2) to know the dominant figurative language used in the play ،Ugly Duckling’ by A.A Milne (3) to know the lessons that we can take from the story. This study uses qualitative research, because the writer does not intend to complete between variable, and does not intend to manipulate the variable either.
From the data which have been analyzed, it is found five kinds of figurative language and the dominant figurative language which are used in the play ،Ugly Duckling’ is hyperbole, euphemism, personification, simile, and irony. And the lesson that can take from the ،Ugly Duckling’ are physical beauty is always interesting to be seen. But it is not guarantee that it reflects the inner beauty however inner beauty will never change in our life but physical beauty will change and by the time around, it will fade and in the elderly, it will not beautiful anymore.
Hopefully, this study will be able to contribute some findings or information’s to the study of literature especially on plays of drama. Besides, it is also expected to be useful as an alternative Scientist material for deeper or further study especially on the same work
