In order to communicate with others, people use language while considering where, when and to whom they speak. Those influence the language that they use. They also may use politeness strategies in order to avoid loosing face, so the conversation goes well. As what marble workers of Campurdarat Tulungagung do when they communicate to each other. They consider social level and situation where they are.

Therefore, they used higher level of Javanese. These conditions lead the researcher analyzing their conversations related to politeness strategy in order to contribute the theory of politeness especially politeness strategies or discourse study and become a useful reference for the next researchers who want to investigate and study politeness strategies of different subjects.

The research was designed in descriptive qualitative form. The data are in the form of utterances that have been collected by observing the marble workers conversations in the field. Then researcher recorded them and took some notes. There of ten conversations of seven boss and eight marble workers with buyers or seller.

After collecting the data, the researcher classifed the data into positive and negative politeness strategies. Then, she analyzed them one by one. She also found that there were 9 strategies of positive politeness and 8 negative politeness strategies. She found that the marble workers used positive politeness strategy in order to respect the hearer or usually they used this strategy when they intend to get something from the hearer or showed their interest. In contrast, they used negative politeness strategy mostly to avoid loosing face because they may disturb another people. Generally, the marble workers often show their interest by giving deference and using phonological slurring words of TulungagungiJavanese words as positive politeness strategies.

Finally, the researcher suggests to next researchers to analyze another language in more critical and interesting ways, such as, focusing on phonological slurring of a certain society as their language uniqueness.
