Abstract
ABSTRACT
This is a literary study viewed from psychological aspects. We all know that literature reflects the life of human beings; Literature is concerned with thoughts, feelings, behavior, or attitude. We, through literature, especially novel, can enrich and enlarge our experience and interpretation of life.
In this study, the writer analyses Jane Austen’s novel entitled ،،Pride and Prejudice” viewed of their psychological aspect.
The writer, in her thesis, presents her problems of the study: who are the major characters in Pride and Prejudice novel by Jane Austen? And how is psychological aspects of the Pride and Prejudice’s main characters described?
In the discussion of this analysis, the writer wants to portray the trait types of the four major characters mentioned above, and classify and dwell upon them accurately on the types of the trait to which they belong on the ground of their given roles in the course of the story in the novel.
In applying her analysis, the writer employs a ٩ualitati١'e research and uses description as her technique of her analysis, she collects the data by using library research method-gathering the data from the place to support her work. The data are attained from the primary source, the hovel itself entitled ،،Pride and Prejudice”. She uses objective analysis-analyzing the major characters’ very states from psychological aspects.
After finishing this analysis, the writer obtained a description that people (represented by the studied major characters) are different personalities specifically of different trait types.
The major characters trait types are follows: Mr Eennet are of three trait types: Reserve, controlled, and responsive. Mrs Bennet are of six trait types: Excitable, impulsive, touchy, anxious, moody, responsive. FitzWilliam Darcy are of five trait types: Unsociable, reserved, thoughtful, touchy, and optimistic. Elizabeth are of six trait types: Controlled, anxiety, responsive, thoughtful, touchy, and optimistic.
Principally, by knowing someone’s trait types, people, accordingly, can conveniently interact with them.
Eventually, the writer hopes that this thesis can be a stimulus for students who desire to conduct a literary study, especially upon novel. She likewise suggest that the students who are interested in literature should have the 1،ove of reading novels for there are hundreds or even thousand of novels challenging to be read and worth analyzing. It is hoped, before the last, that the result of this study can be of a high meaningfulness; and it is believed that dealing lots of literary works particularly novels, we will be led to be able to live our lives harmoniously and delightfully and to be able to see and undergo our future lives optimistically better, and to be able to puts our words and actions much more wisely.
