A study of figurative language and moral values in Rendras Poem Blues untuk Bonnie

ABSTRACT

Literature is the expression of author’s life, feeling, imagination and ٠dea that appears in various forms such as poem, novel, drama, poetry, short stories etc. Study literature is subjective since every reader has different comprehension, has different appreciation, and interpretation depends on their quality and quantity in analyzing it.

In poem, every poet has certain distinctive features in illustrating his feelings and ideas. Those distinctions include some aspects of literary such as theme, rhythm, diction, values, figurative language, symbolism etc. in this case the writer is eager to make a great effort in studying figurative language and moral values in Rendra’s Poem in “Blues Untuk Bonnie”.

The problems that he tries to solve in this study are: 1). What kinds of figurative languages are used in Rendra’s poem “Blues Untuk Bonnie”? 2). What are the moral values included in Rendra’s poem “Blues Untuk Bonnie”?

The writer uses descriptive qualitative research design in his thesis to describe figurative and moral value in Rendra’s poem ،،Blues Untuk Bonnie”.

The result of this study shows that Rendra use many Figurative languages such as personification, simile, metaphor, hyperbole, allusion, repetition, and antithesis, to decorate his poems and often used erotic words as manifestation of his soul. Generally, “Blues Untuk Bonnie” has moral value, which contains social and individual relationships among others.

Finally, the writer hopes that this study will give the other researchers more information especially to start further research, whether in different aspects such as diction, theme, rhythm etc.
