Abstract

ABSTRACT

Indonesia consists of many islands and automatically has many kinds of local language. Madurese is Indonesian local language, which is used in Madura, and the small surrounding island like Kangean, Ra’as, etc.

In this thesis, the writer takes the title ،،a morphological analysis on reduplications of Sumenep dialect Madurese” as the topic of his study. Because, first, there are only a few persons who studies about Madurese reduplication, especially in Sumenep dialect Madurese. The second, it is important to develop the local language, because the development of local language influences national language standardization.

The problems of the study in his thesis are first, what are the characteristics of reduplication used in Pasongsongan village of Sumenep dialect Madurese, and the second, what is the function of reduplication used in Pasongsongan village of Sumenep dialect Madurese.

The writer limits his study only on reduplication system as the aspect of morphology. In doing his research, the writer uses descriptive qualitative research, and analyzed by using theory suggested by Ramlan.

The result of the discussion show that characteristics of reduplication used in Pasongsongan village of sumenep dialect Madurese are partial reduplication, complete reduplication, reduplication with affixation, sound change reduplication, compound word reduplication, and words which are similar with the reduplication. Moreover, the function of reduplication used in Pasongsongan village of Sumenep dialect is depend on affixation and always based on the function in the sentence.

In the end, the writer hopes the other researchers are interested in conducting further this study, because it is necessary to be understood by anybody else who would like to know more about reduplication in Sumenep dialect Madurese, and it is more important to be understood by Madura people.
