ABSTRACT

Literature is one of the most creative and universal means of communicating the emotion, spiritual and intellectual concern of mankind. The study of literature is divided into three big branches mely prose, drama and poetry. Novel is one of literature works which is a book length story in the form of prose, it can bean expression of society or mirror of the writer’s social situation. Literary tell about someone’s personality. There is some kinds experience such sadness, or happiness.

Sackett ’٨• Land was written by Louis L’Amour arround 16للا century ago. It is one of famous novels. It illustrated the adventure of a man who shipwrecked on an island. He lived there for about twenty-eight years in the isolated land.

There are some reasons for the writer to choose this topic. By reading the novel, we acquire some knowledge and insight idea about how to appreciate literature and how to know the background of the novel of ،،Sackett’s Land” By Louis L’Amour. The writer decided to entitle her thesis ،Psychological Analysis on the Novel of ،Sackett’s Land’ by Louis L’Amour and what are the causes of Barnabas Sackett’s smartness.

This study is descriptive qualitative research as it concerns with the description of the causes of smartness in the novel ،Sackett’s Land’. Related to the analysis of literary works, the instrument is the researcher herself. In addition, she read the novel and catching some data related to the subject of the research in internet. The data obtained four categories, which are in accordance with the di vidion of the story. The factors of smartness are illustrated that internal factors are those factors that appear from someone’s personality in facing the fact. The external factor is the factor that appears from outside someone’s personality such as environment, brother and society.
