Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study is aimed at analyzing the main character of ،،,The Lord of The Rings” based on Maslow’s personality theory. It is theory about human basic needs, there are : physiological needs, safety needs, love and belonging needs, the esteem needs and self-actualization needs.

It is a quantitative research because the writer does not try to formulate theory but verify a theory.

In this study the writer is the key research instrument in analyzing the data and the data taken from the novel.

After analyzing the data, the writer finds out some findings that there are the number of innate needs that activate the main character of the novel, there are: physiological needs, safety needs, love and belonging needs, the esteem needs and self-actualization needs. The writer also finds that the physiological needs influence the safety needs on main character. The safety needs becomes the dominant needs on main character of the novel.

The conclusion of this study are as human beings, Mr. Frodo has number of innate needs that directed his behavior but he has a serious problem in satisfying his needs, especially in satisfying his safety needs. He really needs friend’s help in solving his problem. As suggestion the writer hopes that the reader would be able to develop new ideas about other aspect which is influencing the personality of human beings and also the reader can used this thesis as reference for further research.
