Abstract
ABSTRACT
There are many language varieties in our country. One of them is Javanese with its several special terms which are found in ،،Fajar’ Store, Surabaya. This terms are spoken by the four sellers which are taken from Javanese (Ngoko, Madya, and Krama), Indonesian, and Malang Slang (Basa Walikan) with some changes. It has been used since 1988.
This study is aimed at answering the following research problems; how are the special terms used and how the process of changing from the original words into the special terms used among the sellers at “Fajar” Store, Surabaya. This study is intended to know how the special terms used and how the process of changing from the original words into the special terms used among the sellers at “Fajar” Store, Surabaya.
This study used a qualitative design and the descriptive technique of analysis to describe how the special terms used in conversation and how the original words are changed into the special terms. There are two instruments used in this study, namely direct observation and interview. In direct observation, the writer actively involved herself in the process of subjects’ interaction. Here, the writer used the field notes and tape recorder to collect data. Unstructured interview was used to find the relevant information about reasons why and how the special terms were used.
,The findings were achieved by describing the special terms and the analysis of special terms from the original words. From the result of the data analysis, it can be concluded that the special terms were not spoken every time, but used in certain context, situation and condition. There are two forms of the special terms, namely perfect forms and complex forms.
The writer realized that the results of this study were still far from perfect. So, any critics, suggestions, or corrections are fully accepted as the reference material for the writer. Finally, the writer hopes this study can be as reference for the readers and there will be further researchers who are willing to study on another special terms and analyze it from other linguistic views, such as phonology, pragmatic, semantic or syntax aspects.
