Psychological analysis on the major characters of William Shakespeares Romeo And Juliet

ABSTRACT

Not all the members of the society are interested in literature. The interest of society to literature that is not only based on the time, when the literature was written but many aspects that make the society be interested in such as how the literatures can give the inspiration to the real life that is faced by the people which is not limited sphere and time. The writer has chosen William Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, as the subject of her study since this play has something to do with psychological aspects, the personality of the major characters. The writer would like to build the habit of reading English literature. So that, we can develop our ability to understand English trough the given stories. The story is somewhat easy to be understood and more enjoyable and favorable to read than other kinds of literary works. Furthermore, by beginning with this easier play, we can get better of human psychology, because our novels, TV, drama, movies, even comics strips as well as serious arts are talking about psychology.

The problems of the study in this thesis are: to describe the major characters of the play as well as the psychological aspects found in the play

This study is a descriptive qualitative method. In the research instrument, she as the key instruments. She used triangulation of data sources and methodological triangulation to strengthen and support her data, which is investigated. The data in this study are taken from the play script of William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and juliet”.

This thesis is library study. The writer using some steps in collecting the data: getting the play script used as data of this study and reading the play script. Then made record the data obtained from the play script. Watching the film of “Romeo and Juliet” and found the data from the Internet to strengthen the data obtained from the play script. Finally, the writer arranged the data systematically in accordance with the problems of the study, so that she can make conclusion.
The final result of this study had been found some major characters of the play are: Romeo, Paris, Mercutio, Tybalt, Friar Laurence, and Juliet as well as the psychological aspects are: the biological component (Id), the psychological component (ego), and the social component (superego) of the play.

Finally in analyzing the play script of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, for the readers are expected to draw lessons from the play in order they do not serious problems as the two feuding houses Capulet and Montague. The 1writer also suggests that the future researcher conduct research of the same scene with more complete data and discussion, new and different suggestion.
