Abstract
ABSTRACT
This research intends to learn more deeply about the Madurese language styles used in engagement by Keraton people of Sumenep Madura. As a matter of fact, Keraton people always use their language styles in engagement, even though they make common society confused because they do not know about Madurese langauge styles used in engagement by Keraton people of Sumenep Madura.
Because of the problems above, the researcher has some questions to be answered. First, What kinds of language style classification used in engagement by Keraton people of Sumenep Madura. Second, in ١vhat contexts are language styles typically used in engagement.
To get valid data, the researcher used some instruments to make this work easier, more efficient, more practice, and more effective. There are two instruments that the researcher used in this study, they are interview and observation. In observation, researcher brings field note and tape record. After getting the data, the next step that is done by researcher is selecting, and classifying to avoid irrelevant data. Then, tlic writer describes the data by using descriptive qualitative method.
The results of the research show that there are three kinds of language styles used in engagement by Keraton people of Sumenep Madura, they are formal style, infonnal style and colloquial style. And the contexts of language style are: hyperbole, metaphor, and personification.
Finally, after finishing this thesis, the writer wishes the readers to know and understand more detail about the hidden meaning which have been explained by the researcher because it relates to the language styles used in engagement by Keraton people of Sumenep Madura. And the writer hopes to the next researcher or the ones who are interested in analyzing the similar topic to be able to develop this study by using different point of view because there are still many elements that have not been analyzed yet. So, they will have more information about language styles used in engagement.
