Abstract
ABSTRACT
Literature is an imaginative writing that can be used to express many aspects of life such as imagination, emotion, idea and experience. The basic aims of literature to give pleasure enjoyment and close relation toward life. One form of the literature is poem. Poem can be expressed in a song to show people’s deep feeling. Besides, a composer also has great many choices how to express his idea.
As we know that there are many kinds of music in this world especially in Indonesia such as keroncong, rock, jazz, pop, and dangdut songs. But, one that is close to the ordinary people is dangdut. Because, it has some kinds of instrument, which can make the peoples, enjoy it, such as gendang, flute, guitar, keyboard, and stringed instruments. There are many people who despise the dangdut song. Last time they made it identical with low class (kampungan). But, Rhoma Irama and Soncta Group, dangdut can be glorious. He popular in our society and he is called ،،The King of Dangdut”. He is different from another dangdut singers, because he has the important mission in it such as he wants to religious proselytizing by using dangdut as media. Besides, he and soneta group make one a symbol as Voice of Moslem.
There are some reasons that make the writer choose this topic. By listening to ،٠ the song, we acquire knowledge about how to appreciate literature, and the background of poems. Therefore, he was interested in analyzing the messages and the figurative language used in Roma Irama’s songs. The writer decided to give the tittle of his thesis ،،A literary Analysis on the Messages and the Figurative Language in the Lyrics of Rhoma Irama’s songs”. The problems of the study are what kind of the messages used in Rhoma Irama’s songs? What kinds of figurative language are used in Rhoma Irama songs? And what is the dominant figurative language used in Rhoma Irama’s songs? ,The writer limits the discussion of his thesis based on the messages (religious, moral and social), figurative language found in Rhoma Irama’s songs and the dominant of figurative language in each song. He takes ten songs from Rhoma Irama albums, which have been selected.
This study, uses a descriptive qualitative method because he would like to analyze and interpret the research object of dangdut songs. The step how he obtained and collected all the data to be observed by looking for and took from the Rhoma Irama’s songs, making record the obtained form the data sources, and arranging the data in accordance the research questions. To corroborate the data, triangulation used in this study. The writer decided to use triangulation of the data sources and methodological triangulation. After the data had been collected, they are analyzed by using snowballing technique the following steps; categorizing the data into 10 categories accordance with the number of songs analyzed, presenting, analyzing, and concluding the data of each category. Lastly, the tentative conclusion is making.
The results of this study show that in every lyric of Rhoma Irama’s songs, it can be found some messages such as about religious, moral and social. Besides, there are many figurative language expressions used by the poet. They are: repetition, hyperbole, personification, metaphor, simile and antithesis. But, the dominant one is repetition, because it more appeared then others. Also, he uses more concrete words than abstract words. It purpose to make easy the reader and listener when they enjoy it. Finally, by analyzing Rhoma Irama’s songs, the reader are expected to know and understand more detail about the hidden messages which have been explored by the writer because it relates to the style that the composer uses.
