Abstract

ABSTRACT

This research focuses on three points : (1) The figurative language in Javanese Wedding Ceremony, (2) The meaning of the expressions, (3) The reasons of using the figurative expressions.

The Method applied in this study is qualitative opproach. Having tried to improve the quality, the greater data and analezed by identifying the characteristics of figurative expression. The next step is to explose the figurative expression by asking Javanese Expert, Study Literature, and Reviews based from Pranatacara’ Speak in Javanese Wedding Ceremony.

In line with the aims of the study, the summary of the findings is as follows, Javanese Wedding Ceremonies contain a lot of verbal symbols in toe form of figures of speech. The figures of speech in Javanese wedding ceremonies are mostly similes, then followed by repetitions, other types that were also found are metaphors, overstatements, and personifications. This fact, especially toe frequent use of similes, reveals the Javanese nature that is not straight forward in its expressions.

The reasons of using toe figures of speech in Javanese Wedding Ceremonies are as follows, to the nature of the Javanese that avoids straightforwardness, to create a fest eve atmosphere, to show toe refinement form of the Javanese language, to instruct toward building a good marriage life without explicitly mentioning it And make toe speech beautiful impressive, polite, and elegant
