Abstract
ABSTRACT
We know that the God created people in the world with the same right to become a good human without any influence from another person that make they are afraid. And differentiation between men and women are as part or couple in order that they complete each other not to desperate or blame each other. Women as human being have the same right with the men. They want to be admitted as like the other people without any differentiation that make them to be different for example they get the different rolejust because they are women. Women image in society is always portrayed in a stereotyped way. Here women as human have both physical and biological difference from men. Women are considered incapable of doing men’s job and have specific role concerning their capability as women. Women stereotyping limits women's roles in society. This is only women’s roles never expand from this stereotyped matter.
Based on the background of study above, the problem of my thesis is : What is the stereotyped roles of women reflected in Pearl s. Buck’s Pavilion of Women.
In this research, the researcher used feminist literary criticism as her research design to conduct the research. Because the feminist literary' criticism is the only research design that is directly related to the literary works. From the novel, the researcher found that there is a difl'erent position between men and women in "Pearl 5 Buck's Pavilion of Women". Women's roles in society have been stereotyped. Women are very identical with domestic problems and domestic affair, such as, Women as beautiful creatures, motherly figure, mean of reproduction, and server to their husband.
Women are identified as beautiful creatures, and as means of reproduction who are very concerned with their appearances. They are only death body with living as sexual reproduction means to give birth children as many as possible without any changes to their body, they must show her beauty in order that their husband satisfied.
In "Pearl 8. Buck's Pavilion of Women" the roles of women are as motherly figure. The image of mother it self is created by society that women as wife should be responsible for taking care of their children after bearing the children, it is the duty as a good mother. Here also women have unfair treatment that after bearing the children they must responsible for their children, women always do everything for other people not for themselves, they always sacrifice to make people to be happy and satisfied although they are hurt, they don’t have freedom to make themselves to be happy and enjoy.
Furthermore, women in "Pearl s. Buck’s Pavilion of Women" are also as server to her husband, in this novel, woman feels happy and proud of her self if they can serve their husband in everything. Women have to fill certain requirements in order to get their status as a good wife or a good mother.
From this research, the researcher hopes that this research can enrich the understanding about literary criticism about women perspective in general, and specifically the stereotyped Roles of women. It is also expected that this research can contribute to other researcher who focus on this topic about women in the field of literature can analyze deeper, and the finding can be made as a reference. This research is so far from perfection, so the researcher hopes that the reader can give correction in order to make this research to be good research.
