Abstract
ABSTRACT
Language is social phenomena so that it is closely tied up with the social structure and value system of a society. This idea implies that any society uses its language in the way its social structure and value system operate in daily communication. A society will use its language differently from another society because every society has its own social structure, value system, habits, customs, etc.
Language has an important part of human life, because it is a means of communication. With language people can get anything to support their life. Language has a lot of functions that make human enjoyable. There are a lot of languages owned by human being in this world. Besides language, communication also has an important part of human life. Communication is used in the process of sending and receiving information signals or massage by talk, gesture and writing. Language is one of the most important things in communication. With language, people interact and express their ideas, emotion, as well as desire to each other. It shows that language is used to interact and express the ideas, and as human language, it is determined by human activities in a group.
The purpose of this study is to find out types of code mixing and kinds of language used in code mixing among clothes traders in Batu market, to describe and ٢md out why clothes traders use code mixing in their conversation.
This study is a descriptive qualitative research, because it attempts to describe the phenomena of human life.
The result of the study shows that there are two types of code mixing used by traders in Balu market. Firstly, inner code mixing which two languages used in one dialogue that is Indonesian as a National language and Javanese as a Regional language. Secondly, outer code mixing which two languages use in one dialogue namely Indonesian as a National language and Arabic as a foreign language. The code mixing in communication among the clothes traders in Batu market is influenced by some factors, i. e٠ situation, education, different ethnic and race, and they want to be familiar.
Furthermore, the suggestion to other researcher which conduct in the same topic to hold deeper study on the code mixing. For instance code mixing between Indonesian and Madurese language, Indonesian and French language, Ambonese and Indonesioan language, etc.
